Robert J. Deutsch
In 1973, my wife Carol and I moved to western North Carolina, where I have been engaged in the general practice of law ever since. Over the years, I have handled a great variety of cases, from capital murder trials to complex commercial, real estate, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and product liability litigation. For the last decade, I have concentrated on business and real estate management issues, including transactions, negotiations, and litigation. I still represent personal injury clients in selected cases.
In addition to practicing law, I have experience owning and operating businesses, including a computer software company, a real estate management firm, and a large shopping mall. I have also served on the board of directors of an internet marketing firm, and an e-book licensing firm.
Perhaps most important, I am a strong advocate and supporter of the Asheville and regional communities. I have developed relationships with key people in government, education, business, and the non-profit sectors. Over the years, I have seen Asheville develop into a center for the arts, outdoor adventure, music, health care, and a prime destination for tourists. I have greatly enjoyed contributing to this growth, and am known as a booster of our city and region.
To protect the beauty of our region, I conceived of and have chaired the Mountain Green Conference on sustainable development in the mountains.
As past president of the Buncombe County Bar, I am proud that our legal community is one of the strongest in North Carolina, while maintaining a collegial atmosphere. I was honored to receive the 28th Judicial District Centennial Award for community service in 2005.
One particular interest of mine is the country of Israel, which I have visited 15 times. I currently serve on the boards of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and the advisory board of Tel Aviv University School of Management.
Recently, I have become certified as a mediator, after having participated as an advocate for clients in many mediation proceedings. I look forward to this new aspect of my practice. I feel that all of the experiences listed above give me a unique perspective in handling legal matters, whether transactions, negotiations, or litigation. The legal system does not stand alone, but rather is integrally connected to the many other communities in society. In my opinion, my ability to see the “bigger picture” when analyzing a legal problem gives my clients an advantage. I look forward to discussing your legal issue, and hope that I can provide services which are of great benefit to you.
